PC Gamer has just posted an article that includes some thoughts about the future StarCraft II 1.2 patch from Chris Sigaty, lead producer of StarCraft II. Expected to be released before the end of the year, patch 1.2 is planned to focus on e-sport functionality and the addition of chat.

Chris also restates that Blizzard does not want to make large changes to the balance just yet, and states that matchups of 2v2 or greater are the current focus.

You can go up and read on the forums at any one time and there are a bunch of different theories about balance and imbalance. We’re being very cautious about making large swinging changes right now because at the highest level things are actually very strong. The things that we’ll probably be addressing are the 2v2 and larger scale games. Ultimately, the 1 to 1 is what we want to keep as sacred as possible, but as a result right now there are some things that we need to address in the 2v2 at the higher level. We’ll be looking at ways to do that without affecting the 1v1 balance.

On the whole, patch 1.2 sounds like it will add some more functions into the game, such as the long-desired chat and the inclusion of "seasons" into ladder play. Hopefully it will also address more balance patches that will make the game as balanced and competitive as is predecessor.
